LECTURES
Tutorial Session 01
7 January 2020 - 10 January 2020 (week 03)
Mr. Shamsul briefed us on our final project and encouraged us to start right away and utilize all the time we have so that we can produce a great outcome.
Tutorial Session 02
17 January 2020 - 20 January 2020 (week 03)
We were treated to an introductory tutorial to After Effects which we will be using for our final project. Mr. Shamsul taught us how to make some simple movements using shapes.
INSTRUCTIONS
FINAL PROJECT - Inforgraphic Video
Our final project required us to create an inforgraphic video on a topic which would be selected from a lucky draw. The available topics are:
- Men vs Women
- Water
- Electricity
- Natural Disaster
My group ended up picking "Men vs Women", so for the rest of the class we were trying to narrow down our options within that category. After a lot of discussions with Mr. Shamsul, we finalized our topic and title which is, "Women drivers are better than men! Here's why". This inforgraphic is based on Malaysia and the statistics of 2018.
Next, we split the tasks among ourselves and below are everyone's roles.
Qaezie - Content & Script writer
Baahy - Animation
Nizam - Animation
Arissa - Illustration
Farah - Illustration
After Qaezie collected all the data, it was time to compile everything into a script that has a flow of narrative from start to finish. Below is the finalized script that Qaezie made.
The Script
We then had to propose our idea to Mr. Shamsul in the form of a moodboard presentation which contained our intended design approach for our video.
Presentation of Moodboard
After Mr. Shamsul reviewed all the gorup's sides, we moved on to making the animatic. Farah worked on the storyboard which is seen below.

When it came to the actual animatic however, due to some miscommunication and lack of time, Nizam and I decided to take initiative and get onto illustrate the storyboard. I illustrated scenes 1 to 4 and the outro while Nizam did scenes 5-8. Here are the graphics I created.

Farah then compiled our work using Premier Pro into the animatic below.
Since we had to rush, I was not too satisfied with the outcome of animatic as the graphics felt too repetitive so over the upcoming weeks,
At this point, our roles changed and I was in charge of illustrations. I started to envision each scene again and sketched out a new storyboard which had a much better narrative.

Farah and I decided to split up the scenes between us so I was to illustrate the intro until scene 4 and Farah was going to complete scenes 5 until outro. I started to figure out how the man and woman should look like so I drew inspiration from references of minimal style illustrations. My process is documented below.

After, I was done, I grouped and organized all the scenes accordingly so that is it easier for Nizam to animate.
Intro - scene 4 ready for animation |
Farah managed to only do scenes 5 to 7 and since her style did not match my one, it would have been very inconsistent if we used her illustrations for the video.
Farah's illustrations |
Because of this problem and as we were running out of time, I decided to redo scenes 5 until outro.

After I was done, Nizam layered everything so he it is easier or him during the animation process.

Nizam then started to animate all the scenes in After Effects.

After Nizam was done with the animation and added, Farah narrated the video and Qaezie added the transitions. That wraps up our final project.
