LECTURES
Lecture 01: Briefing
26 August 2019 (week 01)
During the first class of Information Design, we were briefed on what Information design is, the contents of our Module Information Booklet, and a brief summary of what we will be going to learn this semester.
Lecture 02: Manuel Lima's 9 Directives Manifesto
7 January 2020 (week 02)
This was the first flip session where the students present the lecture on the given topic of the week. This is my group's presentation, which explores Manual Lima's 9 directive manifestos.
Lecture 03: LATCH
10 January 2020 (week 03)
We presented on Saul Wurman's manifesto, L.A.T.C.H, which briefly is the foundation for the way in which information are organized. Our groups' research on this topic is in the slides above.
Lecture 04: Chunking
17 January 2020 (week 04)
My group and I presented on Miller's law of Chunking, which portrays how information can be broken down into chunks so that humans can process and remember information faster and much more efficiently. Our findings are in the slides above.
INSTRUCTIONS
EXERCISE 1 - Buttons
In the first exercise, we were required to quantify and observe data from a handful of buttons or lego bricks and then create an information poster of the data we collected. The buttons that I received were shades of pink and I had to categorize them according to shape, color, size, texture and more. It was quite challenging for me as I have never done this before so I found it hard to distinguish the buttons into different categories at first.

EXERCISE 2 - Pokemon L.A.T.C.H
The next exercise was to use our understanding of LATCH and create a informative poster of 4 Pokemon of our choice. We were given a lot of freedom to decide the output of this task. I used to watch some Pokemon as a kid and did play a few of the games but I wouldn't consider myself as one who knows a lot about it. Thus, the longest process was the initial decision stage where I first had to pick and choose Pokemon. There were so many factors in this decision such as which game to base it on, which generation of Pokemon to choose etc. Ultimately, it was up to us to figure out how to incorporate LATCH into the world of Pokemon thus this was quite challenging.
The Pokemon I ended up choosing are Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip and Bagon. They are gen 3 Pokemon. The version I picked for my poster was Pokemon Emerald so my poster is centered around that theme.
I then went on to incorporate LATCH with the Pokemon I chose.

Sketches |
Next I had to think about how I can present the principles of LATCH on my Pokemon. Our lecturers challenged us not to use a map as it was common with the previous batch, so I thought of new ways to organize the data. During the start of a Pokemon game, you are required to choose from 3 pokeballs consisting of different types of Pokemon. It was this that sparked the idea of using the pokeballs in Professor Birch's bag as the basis for my design. The process is documented below.
