EXERCISES

Exercise 1: Hearst Mansion

This week we learnt how to use the quick selection tool to crop put elements and place into different backgrounds. Then we were taught how to make these cut outs blend with the background by adding shadow. This was done with brush tool and adjusting the opacity. Another thing mentioned was how to lower quality if the original is not that clear so we figured out how to add noise to an image.

Exercise 2:  Ghost house / Replacing background

Exercise 3: Recoloring exercise

We learnt how to use paint tool and blending mode to recolor a black and white image. Masking was used to make the edges clean so no color goes beyond the area we want it to be on.

Next we were tasked to choose any picture, preferably our own and recolor it so I chose this one of me which I never could find the colored picture of so it was perfect.

Exercise 4: Changing one's stripes

Displacement mapping can only be accomplished if the object you want to put texture on is saved as a PSD black and white file. We carried out a tutorial where we placed snakeskin on this man and also adding the flag onto an uneven surface of  a cloth.

Our task this time around was to think surrealistically and combine textures and objects in ways never seen before. What I did was add the texture of a Cheetah to the skin of a crocodile as both of these share similar traits, such as the fact that they are both experts in hunting prey and can pounce out of no where.

Exercise 5: The Castle of Pyrenees

By using all the skills learnt from the weeks so far, we were told to recreate this picture and were given the option to put our own twist. I chose to use the rock provided but added my own castle and background.
